HBMSU Leverages Pioneering Experience and Expertise in Calling on Pioneers in Education and Technology to Create Joint Initiative Aimed at Supporting Education in Africa

In support of UNESCO’s efforts to advance education and human development in the African continent

UAE, April 20, 2020 – In line with its continuing commitment to make a quality focused shift in education and to leverage its unique experience and expertise in smart education, the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU) recently took part in a special virtual seminar (webinar) attended by some of the most prominent international educational organizations and institutions. The virtual meeting was held to discuss moves on how to further enhance the constructive contributions of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in support of promoting education in the African continent.

The seminar, proved to be both timely and strategic, as it comes during the sudden emergence of the coronavirus (COVID-19), posing great challenges to education, especially in Africa, which lacks advanced educational infrastructure. The seminar was held in partnership with the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (UNESCO IITE), the UNESCO Nairobi Office (Regional Office for East Africa), and the UNESCO International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa (UNESCO IICBA), amidst consensus on the importance of exploring new horizons for implementing joint projects that serves the aspirations of providing quality education in Africa to qualify new generations capable of investing their potential in building a better, safer and more prosperous future.

HBMSU joins ‘First Global Forum for Higher Education and Scientific Research’ in Egypt

Dr. Mansoor Al Awar: ‘We will unite efforts to align education with global sustainable development goals’

University showcases pioneering experience in integrating advanced technologies into learning system

Cairo, Egypt, April 13th, 2019 – Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU) joined the recently concluded ‘First Global Forum for Higher Education and Scientific Research’ in Cairo, Egypt. It was the first university in the GCC region to attend the event held under the patronage of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, who graced the international conference. The high-level participants tackled the current and future status of higher education and scientific research in relation to innovation, technology, and knowledge. During the forum, HBMSU Chancellor Dr. Mansoor Al Awar showcased the university’s pioneering features and experiences as one of the top regional and international higher education institutions. Dr. Al Awar also highlighted HBMSU’s leading role in changing the face of traditional education by focusing on innovation, creativity, scientific research, and modern technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), augmented reality, Internet of Things, and other next-generations tools.

During his presentation titled ‘The Future of Higher Education,’ Dr. Al Awar discussed HBMSU’s unique international model in re-shaping the future of higher education through the adoption of a smart education approach. The university was the first higher educational institution in the UAE to integrate advanced technologies into its learning system. HBMSU, for example, has adopted the approach of games in learning as well as launched the school of Artificial Intelligence to nurture, develop, and enhance the skills of its learners according to the country’s vision for the future. The UAE was the first to utilize AI and make the shift to knowledge economy under the guidance of its wise leaders, who believe in the importance of harnessing the full power of technological innovations to push forward the country’s socio-economic development agenda and national progress.

MANCOSA launches the new Pretoria learning centre

Pretoria, South Africa, December 3rd, 2018

The learning centre aims to provide a wider range of services to existing students and prospective students in and around the Pretoria area. Students will have access to additional service offerings such as early registrations; face-to-face academic interactions and larger lecture venues.

MANCOSA invited current DBA student Mr. Mandla Zembe; Head of Protection Services at Anglo American; as the keynote speaker to the event. Mr. Zembe’s address centred on the Honoris United Universities theme; “Education for Impact”; which he summed up accurately in his introductory paragraph; “There’s a difference between a person with qualifications and an educated person. An educated person behaves differently to a qualified person because an educated person brings value and change into a situation and seeks to learn more whilst a qualified person knows
only what he/she has been taught and behaves as such.”

Women In Africa: What contribution do women make to the economy?

The 2nd Women In Africa Summit (WIA) Initiative in Marrakech recognizing the contributions of women and their strong presence in the largest sectors of the African economy.

At the closing session of this Summit, under the patronage of HM King Mohammed VI and organized under the theme “Looking Africa with confidence, believing in one’s talents”, participants called for the sharing of power between women and men in Africa, highlighting the importance of women’s vital role in the continent’s economy.
